diptych -- may be hung flush together or a few inches apart

Media & Method:

Base: signmaker's plywood skimmed with joint compound (drywall plaster).

Surface: compound is carved, brushed, stamped and sanded for texture.

Underpainting: white gesso in places for a resist effect on fava, squash and leaf.

Pigment: Thin washes of oil paint.

Hanging: paintings are VERY heavy and backed with durable hanging apparatus on the back, setting the painting out 1/2 inch from wall.

Impact: Overall effect is a textured fresco look, slightly watercolorish and airy -- and quite unlike any other paintings I've seen before. Highly original technique and truly seminal works for the artist.

Blood Orange has a more "touchable" quality due to high relief and thicker paint application.
