Client:

Teaching Matters, Inc. and District 7, NYC

In this project specially commissioned by District 7 in The Bronx, New York, I developed a youthful look and feel for BronXplore, a web-based geography curriculum that debuted in the Spring of 2002.

Sophisticated color and playful shapes were used to make the site appealing to young students and to their grownup teachers.

Though the characters of Manny and Sophie were conceived by another artist, project constraints required me to better adapt these simple characters for Flash and GIF animations.

The main navigation bar and a map of the Bronx featured whimsical rollover GIFs with an "X-marks-the-spot" theme to develop a sense of discovering treasures in one's own backyard.

Flash animations sprinkled throughout the site added visual interest and a sense of drama for the lesson plans and class activities.

A combination of stock photography and in-house archival photos enhanced the text-heavy lesson plans and teacher preparation materials.
